Unified Efforts

European Synergies

UNCAN-Connect is part of a broader ecosystem of EU-funded projects supporting the EU Mission on Cancer. Together, these initiatives address complementary aspects of digital research infrastructure, data use, citizen engagement, and enabling frameworks at European scale.

Foundational blueprint

About UNCAN.eu

UNCAN-Connect builds upon the work of the UNCAN.eu project, which developed the initial conceptual and technical blueprint for a federated European cancer data platform.

While UNCAN.eu focused on defining the architecture, principles, and requirements for such a framework, UNCAN-Connect advances this work by validating and implementing the approach through concrete use cases, governance mechanisms, and stakeholder engagement activities.

National Node Integration

About CANDLE

CANDLE (National CAncer dataNode DeveLopErs) is a Horizon Europe project coordinated by Health-RI, bringing together 40 partners from 20 European countries to support Member States and Associated Countries in setting up National Cancer Data Nodes. These nodes aim to strengthen the way cancer data is managed and shared nationally and across borders by promoting harmonisation, standardisation, and FAIR-aligned data reuse, while enabling cross-border, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)-compliant data sharing for research and innovation.

Why this synergy matters for UNCAN-Connect

CANDLE’s focus on building and aligning national-level cancer data nodes complements UNCAN-Connect’s work on the federated UNCAN.eu infrastructure by supporting countries in developing the organisational and technical readiness needed for trusted cross-border collaboration. CANDLE also positions these nodes as demonstrators for national disease-specific implementation approaches aligned with the European Health Data Space (EHDS).

Information Infrastructure

About EU-CIP

EU-CiP (European Cancer Information Portals) is a Horizon Europe project building a shared EU-CiP Library of Contents that will serve as the basis for national and regional cancer information portals. These portals aim to give patients, survivors, families, and caregivers access to trustworthy, evidence-based, easy-to-understand information across the full cancer journey, from diagnosis and treatment options to rehabilitation, recurrence management, and palliative care.

Why this partnership matters

EU-CiP strengthens the citizen-and patient-facing layer of Europe’s cancer digital ecosystem by turning evidence and guidance into accessible information services. In parallel, UNCAN-Connect focuses on the federated infrastructure and research use cases that enable secure cross-border cancer research, together supporting complementary parts of the broader EU Mission on Cancer landscape.

The UNCAN Ecosystem

Collaborative Synergy Partners

UNCAN-Connect is integrated into a robust framework of EU-funded projects and initiatives. By aligning with these key partners, we ensure data interoperability, shared governance standards, and a unified front in supporting the EU Mission on Cancer.
