UNCAN Nodes
Bridging national expertise with European research through a decentralized framework of coordination points and centralized support tools.
Connecting National Nodes to the European Ecosystem
National Cancer Data Nodes (NCDNs) are nationally designated coordination points for cancer-related data within each Member State. They connect hospitals, cancer registries and research institutions with the wider European cancer data ecosystem.
Working closely with the UNCAN.eu central platform, NCDNs act as the national interface linking local data holders to European initiatives and standards, including the European Health Data Space (EHDS). They enable improvements in data quality, interoperability and responsible data sharing in line with national and European frameworks.
The Central UNCAN Platform acts as the main coordination, navigation and capacity-building of the UNCAN-Connect infrastructure, in line with the e-cancer recommendations. It connects distributed cancer data resources across Europe while keeping data securely stored at the level of the data holder. Researchers can discover and query datasets across borders, supporting interoperability between infrastructures, standards and data types.
The platform comprises both public-facing components for researchers and an internal governance portal for National Cancer Data Nodes. The governance portal includes a roadmap and monitoring dashboard, a node collaboration environment, and a secure document repository, enabling coordinated implementation and alignment across participating countries.
National Interface
NCDNs link local hospitals and registries to the European ecosystem, driving data quality and EHDS interoperability.
Central Coordination
The platform enables cross-border data discovery while ensuring sensitive information remains securely stored at the source.
Unified Governance
A dedicated portal for National Nodes providing roadmaps, monitoring, and shared legal frameworks for alignment.
